4 reasons why UCC is appealing to the millennial workforce

In 2016, millennials became the largest generation pool in the workforce. According to an analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data by Pew Research Center, 35% of the U.S. workforce is made up of millennials. Of course, this didn’t happen by surprise. For years now, this generation has been entering the workforce as boomers have exited, leading to countless articles about how millennials differ from previous generations.

While there are disagreements on certain claims, most agree that millennials have strong ties to their technology, particularly when it comes to mobile communications. That makes it critical for organizations hoping to attract and retain millennial workers to implement effective UCC solutions—and creates an opportunity for you.

Why do millennials find UCC-enabled employers so appealing?

  1. They already know UCC: Millennials have grown up using a combination of chat, video and voice. They understand the benefits of cloud storage and sharing documents and assets. Most are essentially already using UCC solutions in their personal lives. Yet, when they go to work, many are forced to use old communications tools and methods that feel foreign and inefficient compared to what they’re used to.
  2. They want to work remotely: Growing up with mobile devices and being connected 24/7 means that many millennials don’t see the point of being tethered to a desk at the office. They seek flexibility and the ability to work remotely. Because of this, organizations that have UCC solutions to enable remote work are more desirable than those that don’t.
  3. They demand good technology: In a recent Forbes article, the author shared that millennials “no longer ask for sufficient technology at their jobs; they expect  it. Often, this expectancy has been painted as entitlement, but what millennial workers really want are the tools they need to do their job efficiently.” Having a UCC solution in place increases efficiency and lets millennial workers communicate more easily.
  4. They love automation: Growing up with apps and powerful computing devices has created a generation that understands the transformative power of technology. Unencumbered by legacy procedures, they don’t see why a process should take days when it could be simplified with automation tools. By taking UCC technologies and adding integrations to critical systems such as CRM and ERP, it’s possible to not only improve communications and collaboration, but also add efficiencies to workflows and processes.
