Looking for digital signage certifications that can transform your business?

March 04, 2019

If you need a way to improve the quality of your digital signage business, make sure you and your employees have the latest certifications. Here’s what we recommend:
  1. You can ensure that you and your staff are up to date on the latest best practices and technological advancements to deliver the best possible solution to your customers.
  2. In an industry where many solution providers are battling hard to stand apart from their competitors, earning certifications is a powerful way to show customers and prospects that you’re willing to invest the time and money to improve and remain current on industry best practices.
  3. Having a continuing education program that includes industry certifications is a great way to show prospective and current employees that you value them and are willing to invest in their growth. If you are the employee, it’s a great way to increase your value to the company.
Digital signage certification recommendations
Avixa, known as the audiovisual and integrated experience association, offers a general audio-video certification called the Certified Technical Specialist (CTS). The CTS certification program includes education on designing, implementing and servicing pro AV solutions. It provides a good solid foundation for you or your employees. The exam is given at Pearson VUE centers.
Another great source for certification is the Digital Signage Experts Group (DSEG), a vendor-neutral organization that offers a variety of different certifications, depending on your needs:
  • Digital Signage Certified Expert (DSCE)—Like the CTS above, this certification program gives students a general overview of the digital signage market; teaches them how to conduct business assessments; educates on key topics of hardware, software, networking; and even includes some content-related ROI and TCO to provide a whole-brained approach to digital signage.
  • Digital Signage Display Expert (DSDE)—This certification program delivers an in-depth look at display technologies. The curriculum includes content on size, resolution, aspect ratios, different technologies, projection systems and calibration.
  • Digital Signage Network Expert (DSNE)—This certification program delivers an in-depth look at digital signage networking best practices. The curriculum includes content related to LANs, WANs, wireless networking, bandwidth and security.
  • Digital Content and Media Expert (DCME)—This certification includes education on topics such as best practices in content design, business models, strategies and analytics.
  • Digital Content Sales Expert—This new certification is expected to be launched at Digital Signage Expo later this month. The curriculum is designed to teach individuals how to successfully market and sell digital signage.

DSEG certifications require online training followed by an exam. The cost for each certification and training is approximately $199 and will take about 8 hours.
If you like the DSEG certifications but want a more personalized touch with the curriculum, Ingram Micro offers its Digital Signage Certified Experts Program. This program is based on the DSEG education and certification but includes a teacher and onsite training. The cost of this program is approximately $399. Ingram Micro is the only distributor qualified to deliver DSEG training and certification in person. Contact Tom Jones, Ingram Micro’s DSEG-certified instructor, for more information.
