The health risks of sedentary behavior in the office
Sources all over the world agree: Too much sitting and sedentary behavior are damaging our health.  The World Health Organization has determined that physical inactivity is the fourth leading cause of global mortality—responsible for up to 25% of incidences of breast and colon cancers and up to 30% of coronary heart disease.
Sitting is certainly the most common posture in today’s office environments. Given the health risks this presents, employers and employees need to look for ways to make adjustments to improve workplace wellness.
Ergotron, Inc., a company that manufactures standing desks and ergonomic workstations, has prepared a handy guide with lots of useful information on how to reduce sedentary behavior in offices, improve posture, lessen back pain and make the workplace more “user friendly.” The guide also provides some sobering statistics on why this is so important.
