What a great time to be involved in digital signage—costs have come down, manufacturers are innovating and more customers across many verticals have come to understand the benefits of the technology. Today, the challenge isn’t finding customers, it’s winning them. Competition among solution providers is fierce. Rather than approach the market as a clone of all your competitors, why not attack the market with some unique options? Here are just 6 ways you can stand apart.
Get creative with size and orientation
Many solution providers get caught in the thinking that digital signage needs to be in the shape of a rectangle. Be creative by mixing different-sized (16:9, 16:10, 4:3) displays and orientations (even odd angles) to create uniquely shaped video walls. Make sure your CMS of choice can support multiple screens, regardless of their orientation.
Be flexible (literally)
The bleeding edge of technology is ultra-thin bendable displays that can be used in a variety of unique ways people are thinking of every day. With these displays, it’s possible to do things like wrap around columns and create flowing installations. Of course, as bendable display pioneers, you and your customer need to be willing to work through challenges.
Don’t overlook widgets
Widgets in CMS aren’t a new thing. Some of the most common corporate signage requests are to display birthdays, work anniversaries and weather. With literally hundreds of widgets available to so many CMS platforms, it’s easier than ever to take your signage solutions to the next level with features such as interactive directories, wayfinding, customer feedback, Slack integration and more.
Think beyond traditional LCD and LED displays
Projectors can create truly unique solutions, particularly if you move into the realm of projection mapping. Projection mapping is taking a 2D image or video and fitting it precisely on or around a 3D object. Mapping software is used to identify the edges, contours and other details so the video is only projected onto areas where it should be. It’s a stunning way to create very eye-catching visuals.
Make your signage reactive
Another way to make your signage stand apart from your competition is to create solutions that dynamically react to certain conditions. For example, a retailer can leverage outdoor temperature or rain sensors (yes, we’re now talking about the marriage of IoT and digital signage) to automatically adjust the content being shown on the in-store digital signage. You can also use RFID and beacons to have displays react to customer interactions and proximity.
Think like a “techorator”
Techorating is combining the skills of an IT solution provider and an interior designer to create a décor and visual experience for your customers that’s unique, attention-grabbing and unforgettable. Get creative using a combination of the above concepts, think outside the box and push the boundaries of what people expect from digital signage. Do that, and you’ll set yourself apart.
