One of the most popular features of Cisco Meraki, which is now used to manage more than 1 million networks worldwide, is cloud-based networking management. Not only does the cloud-based platform free up administrative time, it offers several additional benefits, such as IP telephony and WAN (wide area network) optimization support, mobile device management, detailed logging information and a seamless user experience, just to name a few.
Cisco developed its Intersight platform to bring the Meraki experience to the data center. Intersight is a cloud-based management platform for Cisco UCS (Unified Computing System) and HyperFlex. Two Intersight editions to choose from: Base and Essentials
The Cisco Intersight Base offering is available at no cost to customers with platforms enabled to support Cisco Intersight. Enabled platforms include Cisco UCS and Cisco HyperFlex systems with a Cisco Intersight device connector, plus eligible Cisco UCS Manager, Cisco IMC (Integrated Management Controller) and Cisco HyperFlex software.
Cisco Intersight Base provides access to a portal that delivers centralized monitoring and basic inventory of managed systems, plus tagging and search capabilities along with the ability to launch native endpoint management interfaces, such as the Cisco UCS Manager.
Cisco Intersight Essentials edition provides all the functionality of the Base edition, plus:
- Policy-based configuration with service profiles
- Remote management and vKVM (virtual keyboard, video and mouse)
- Firmware management with scheduled updates
- HCL (hardware compatibility list) compliance check and upgrade recommendations
Cisco Intersight Essentials edition can be ordered in one-year, three-year and five-year subscription periods. Additionally, volume discounts are available for customers ordering more than 1,000 simultaneous server subscriptions.
Cisco Smart Accounts and Smart Licensing are mandatory prerequisites for Cisco Intersight. And a Cisco Connection Online (CCO) user account is mandatory to use the Cisco Intersight user interface.
