Are your retail customers’ networks ready for Black Friday?

Are your retail customers’ networks ready for Black Friday?

For some retailers, the holiday season can represent as much as 30% of annual sales, so it’s extremely important that merchandise is available and nicely presented and that all systems are running smoothly—in the physical store as well as the virtual store. You can be sure cybercriminals will be gearing up for the holidays, too, weaving in their holiday-themed phishing schemes and other insidious attacks into the mix. To ensure your retail customers don’t fall prey at this critical time of year for their businesses, it’s a good time to make your security list and check it twice (too soon?). Here’s a list of key security areas to keep top of mind when it comes to protecting your customers’ stores and brands:

  • Manage compliance with a security strategy. Data breaches continue to threaten retailers’ brands, reputations and profits. Prioritize your customers’ digital transformations with the support and advice of Cisco Security Advisory Services, a group of dedicated advisors who work with Cisco partners to help identify and resolve vulnerabilities quickly.
  • Secure Access for customers and associates. Gain customer loyalty and protect your customers’ brands by providing consistent security and network visibility through an integrated deployment. Cisco Secure Access includes Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE), which gives you awareness of everything hitting your customers’ networks. Cisco AnyConnect, another component of Secure Access, ensures store employees or guests connecting to the network via laptops or personal mobile devices are protected. Cisco Umbrella Roaming offers additional mobile protection even when users are off the corporate VPN. Cisco TrustSec technology simplifies virtual LAN-based segmentation, enabling devices to be segmented on the network without requiring a network redesign. And finally, Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) offers the industry’s first threat-focused next-generation firewall (the ASA 5500-X Series).
  • Protect retailers from ransomware. Ransomware can penetrate organizations in multiple ways. Reducing the risk of infections requires more than a single product. Cisco Ransomware Defense calls on the Cisco security architecture to protect retailers using defenses that span from networks to the DNS (domain name system) layer to email to the endpoint. It’s also backed by Talos threat research for the ultimate responsiveness against ransomware.
  • Segment your customers’ networks for PCI compliance. Cisco TrustSec software-defined segmentation enables partners to define and enforce security policies across user devices (e.g., shopper, associate, corporate) without redesigning the network and reduces the scope of compliance for PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry Digital Security Standard) regulations.
  • Secure your critical data. The data center is critical to the success of your customers. The Cisco Secure Data Center solution gives them integrated protection and dynamic, intelligent control to defend against today’s sophisticated attacks. Because policy is already in place, the Cisco Secure Data Center solution blocks internal and external threats at the data center edge and zones, and in applications. The solution’s security context capabilities provide visibility into network entities and flows to drive consistent enforcement and policy regardless of deployment model.

Retailers are realizing a lot of rewards from making new digital touchpoints with consumers, but these rewards also come with cybersecurity risks that require a new kind of security strategy. Cisco Security for retail is the new security model that addresses the full attack continuum—before, during and after and delivers security everywhere—from endpoints to the cloud.
