Day two of Cloud Summit was filled with some exciting Ingram Micro announcements, including the launch of the Cloud Referral Program. Partners were buzzing over this news, with many asking “Will this program align with my cloud strategy?”
To help partners decide, Ingram Micro’s Director of Cloud Business Development, Sean Oberholtzer led an afternoon breakout where he spoke on the genesis of the Cloud Referral Program, how it works, what space it’s trying to fill, and how it fits in with Ingram Micro’s overall platform strategy.
What is the Cloud Referral Program? According to Oberholtzer, “This program is designed for channel partners who want to take advantage of cloud opportunities without the investments necessary to build a cloud practice and directly service end customers.”
The business model allows channel partners to market and sell cloud services through customized banners and links featured on their website and supplied by Ingram Micro. Resulting sales and complementary services are conducted by Ingram Micro under the partner’s brand. In return, the channel partner receives a commission for the referral at a rate of 7% of the sale price and can choose between a one-time yearly payment or monthly recurring commission structure.
Oberholtzer also provided an interactive demo of how the Cloud Referral Program works, from account setup to payment delivery.
Questions from the crowd came pouring in, including the current vendor offerings that can be accessed through the program. Oberholtzer advised, “Right now as of launch today, Microsoft CSP is available through the Cloud Referral Program and by the end of the month, the remainder of the solutions offered on Ingram Micro’s Cloud Marketplace will be available to channel partners.”
Oberholtzer ended the session with a general question to all: “Now, who thinks the Cloud Referral Program is the platform for you?” Raised hands and clapping filled the room.
