In this episode of the Meraki Mondays show, Dan Stewart, Business Transformation Center (BTC) engineer, and Bobby Young, technology consultant, Ingram Micro, discuss network-based application recognition (NBAR). NBAR is an advanced application-recognition engine Meraki added to its MR series access points.
NBAR can easily update its classification rules, and provides out-of-the-box visibility to 1,500+ applications and subclassifications with less than 1% unknown and less than 1% unclassified encrypted traffic. Meraki platforms that support NBAR provide granular and enhanced capabilities regarding client tracking and application enforcement.
NBAR advantages vs. traditional traffic-analytic engines:
- Granular layer 7, SD-WAN and traffic-shaping policies using enhanced application visibility
- Well-established traffic classification engine used by many Cisco products
- Fine-grained traffic analytics and client tracking
