How to Partner with Other Resellers to Bid on Larger Jobs

IM Link, Ingram Micro’s online marketplace, matches prequalified solution providers based on expertise, geography and certifications.

What is it?

Ingram Micro Link, or IM Link, is an online marketplace for resellers to find partners with complementary technical know-how, according to specific geographic and certification criteria. IM Link helps resellers supplement their skill sets to bid on bigger jobs and contracts.

Qualified solution providers can either shop for the talent and expertise they need (buyers), or they can reply to posted projects (providers). “Providers are ranked, so people can see what their geography and rating is,” explains Greg Richey, director of professional and training services for Ingram Micro. “When a buyer asks for help, providers are contractually required to respond within specific time frames.”

How does it work?

Resellers who qualify for membership in IM Link sign nondisclosure and noncompete agreements, allowing them to bid and work on projects without fear of customer poaching. The primary reseller retains ownership of the end-customer relationship, and any adjustments to the project are communicated to the IM Link partners involved.

Another convenient benefit: Ingram Micro handles all the invoicing, so the customer does not end up writing multiple checks. Buyers and providers review and agree to all the money issues, such as cost and remuneration, up front. Once the lead provider gives final approval, Ingram Micro handles all the appropriate debits and credits.

Participating resellers have a place of business, credit lines, and are established members of the Ingram Micro community. And they can bid without having to invest in new staff while they figure out if they want to get into that space. “IM Link mitigates risk,” Richey concludes.
