More than Just Printers: How Xerox is Keeping the Workforce Connected

You probably know the name Xerox. And you probably know them for one thing, and one thing only—printers.

And while it is true that Xerox has produced a lot of printers in their 114-year history as a company, the truth is they’re so much more than printers, especially in today's remote-work world. And they can do so much more for your business.

On this episode of B2B Tech Talk, Shelby Skrhak sits down with Jim Serra, US Distribution Account Manager for Xerox, to talk all about:

  • Why Xerox is more than just a printer company
  • How they’ve evolved over the years to meet the needs of today’s remote workforce
  • Why they’re doubling down on their commitment to small and mid-sized businesses
  • The challenges facing the channel today
  • Where he sees technology going in the next year, specifically in the managed print services industry

More than printers

While it’s true that in their 114-year history, Xerox has gotten very good at the printer game. The truth is that they’re more than that.

For instance, security is still top of mind for nearly every company on earth as the majority of office workers headed for home at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Because a home office means a printer connected to a home Wi-Fi network.

And a home Wi-Fi network isn’t as secure as an enterprise network.

So Xerox has continued to partner with McAfee and Cisco to provide embedded features to protect those devices and the data that they access because right now, everyone and every entity is a target.

A security state of mind

Just how committed has Xerox become to addressing the current security challenges? With the explosion of mobile computing, even before the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been an increased demand for fully remote capabilities. And Xerox has designed products for a distributed workforce.

Cyber crime is up 600%, 50% of employees want a more flexible work model, 2 out of every 3 major companies are stepping up their investments in automation, and climate change is having a real and measurable impact on 70% of all economic sectors.

So it’s safe to say that security is front and center.

Tailored for small to medium-sized businesses

While it may seem that Xerox is built for the enterprise, the truth is that small to medium-sized businesses are the heartbeat of business, and no one company can do it alone.

Small and mid-sized businesses become a renewed focus. Why is that?

SMB has always been a focus and still will be. Small to medium businesses are the heartbeat of business in general. Rely on partnerships that have expertise in specific verticals. No one company can do it all alone.

This is why Xerox has tailored solutions for those businesses through a four-pronged approach:

  1. IT services (the hardware, software and automation tools)
  2. A product portfolio that suits a large range of office environments
  3. The software to help manage content, accessibility of data and personalized experience
  4. A suite of productivity applications that can automate tedious, document-centric tasks for any device
