The internet is no longer an option.
In fact, in 2016, the United Nations General Assembly declared access to the internet to be a basic human right. And in the United States, in urban areas, 97% of people have access to high-speed internet.
But once you move to the rural areas of the country, that number drops to 65%. Which means that 30 million Americans don't have access to reliable high-speed internet. Homes, families and small business owners are left wondering what to do.
Thankfully, there are companies stepping up to help bridge this digital gap, including one of Ingram Micro’s partners—Verizon.
Justin Pugh, a Solutions Sales Executive here at Ingram Micro, joins us on this episode to talk about:
- The FCC Emergency Connectivity Fund
- The Verizon Business Internet Plan
- How Ingram Micro partners can take advantage of the FCC Emergency Connectivity fund
- Where technology is going in the next year
Bringing in the FCC
COVID didn’t create the digital divide, but it certainly shined a light on it. As millions of families and employees were forced to take school and work home, they were left scrambling for devices and the connectivity to make it happen.
As a part of the American Rescue plan, $7.2B was allocated to help fight this growing divide, hoping to deliver internet and reliable connectivity to those that need it most: our educators, children and small businesses.
The 5G revolution
Verizon is going all in for every American that needs connectivity, no matter where they need it. With the implementation of 5G service all over the country, they’re aiming to reach all of those people who were left behind with traditional broadband service.
And as an Ingram Micro partner, you can also take advantage of these FCC Emergency Funds with Verizon behind the connectivity part of it all.
